2025 Summer Reading Plan

Dear families,
It is hard to believe that summer is already upon us! Venture students have worked hard to own their journey and grow in their learning this year. To prevent the summer ābrain drainā and set students up for success this fall, the learning continues this summer. On May 31st, āAdVenture into Readingā, Ventureās summer reading program, begins! See below for the requirements for the program as well as a few bonus challenges student can participate in.
Requirements for the program:
- Students entering grades K-2 are required to read a total of 500 minutes over the summer. This averages out to about 5 minutes of reading each day. Reading to your child or reading aloud together as a family counts toward these reading minutes!
- Students entering grades 3-7 are required to read a total of 800 minutes. This averages to about 10 minutes of reading each day. This can include silent reading, reading aloud to someone, or reading together as a family.
- Students entering grades 6-7 must also select one book they read over the summer and create a project representing that book. They have the freedom to express their ideas in any creative way they choose. This project should be submitted to their teacher by the end of the first week of school.
- Included in this packet is a book log to begin tracking your reading. All students must turn in their reading logs to their teacher in the first week of school to be graded based on completion.
There are also some additional challenges for students this summer to help make meeting these required minutes more fun! Your child is welcome to participate in as many or as few challenges as they wish. These challenges are completely optional and will not be graded. However, students may be eligible for small prizes when they return to school. We will also recognize the student who reads the most minutes, as well as celebrate the grade level that collectively logs the most minutes read over the summer. All challenges are explained in this packet and on our website, along with any necessary pages you might need.
Engage with us on social media to have fun finding out where Mrs. Stuttgen is reading this summer and to share your childās reading progress, too. Reach out to Mr. Marusak or Mrs. Stuttgen if you have any questions about the summer reading program.
