A Closer Look at Accreditation at Venture Academy

What Does Accreditation Mean?

Accreditation is a voluntary and comprehensive review process led by an outside organization. Venture Academy has chosen to work with Cognia, which partners with schools around the world. They are a highly respected and recognized accreditation agency, having served over 34,000 institutions.

Through this process, the school takes a close look at:

  • How students are learning and growing
  • How teachers are supported and trained
  • How decisions are made and reviewed
  • What are the school plans for the years ahead, both programmatic and financial

It is thoughtful, thorough work. It asks schools to reflect honestly on what is going well and where growth is needed.

Why Are We Doing This?

At Venture Academy, we believe great schools never stop learning. We chose accreditation because it helps us:

  • Listen carefully to feedback from outside the school
  • Check our practices against clear, trusted standards and best-in-class standards
  • Strengthen what is working and address what is not
  • Plan wisely for the future

This work is not about perfection. It is about being intentional and responsible with what we have been entrusted with for the good of all Venture stakeholders.

Are All Schools Accredited?

Many parents are surprised to learn that not all schools are accredited. In fact, in Wisconsin, fewer than 15% of schools hold national accreditation. Accreditation is not required in the state of Wisconsin. Schools can operate and serve students without it. So why would Venture Academy choose to take this step? For us, the answer lies in a passionate commitment to ongoing improvement and exceptional care for students, families, staff, and the future of our school.

What Accreditation Is Not

Accreditation does not mean that schools without it are lacking or careless. Many schools do wonderful work without pursuing it. For Venture Academy, accreditation is simply another way of saying: we are willing to be examined and reviewed against high educational standards, to learn, grow, and become the best we can be. It is not about replacing our mission, values, or culture. Rather, the accreditation process supports them.

What This Means for Families

For parents, accreditation provides added confidence. It shows that Venture

  • Welcomes reflection and rigorous examination
  • Uses information to guide decisions
  • Is committed to continuous improvement
  • Is thinking long-term about students, families, and the school

Most importantly, it reflects a school that wants to do right by its community.

Walking This Path Together

Pursuing accreditation is a meaningful step, and it is one we do together. We are grateful for the trust our families place in us and for the chance to strengthen Venture with care and purpose. Venture Academy passed the candidacy process with flying colors and received a report that was extremely encouraging. The report, written by Venture’s Accreditation Regional Evaluator, Ms. Vanessa Moran is quite complementary. She previewed the 2,500 pages of documents Venture provided to Cognia’s portal, met with our team routinely prior to her visit and then spent time on campus. In her summary of the candidacy review Ms. Moran stated “The classrooms observed revealed a disciplined, purposeful learning environment where students were consistently engaged in meaningful academic work.”  This is indicative of the complimentary and positive tone of the report. It speaks to the dedication, hard work and commitment of  our staff, leadership and board. Overall the Accreditation Review Report was extremely positive. We are officially pursuing full accreditation within the next two years, and we look forward to sharing updates with you along the way.
